Twisting helps solve some of the physical problems of signal transmission. When an electric current flows through any wire, it creates electromagnetic interference superimposed on the electrical signals in adjacent wires.
Twisting pairs of conductors can cancel out most electromagnetic noise, so most network cables that use copper wires contain twisted pairs.
